Oak Bark (Quercus cortex) Dried Bark | BioKoma
Oak bark has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, astringent and disinfecting properties thanks to the high content of tannins, polyphenolic compounds and flavonoids. It is used on the affected skin, but also in the case of problems with the digestive system.

Properties:
  • The tannins contained in Oak bark have a positive influence on sides of blood vessels, lowering their permeability, hinder microbleeding and give them flexibility. Tannins have also antiseptic properties. They show activity against staphylococci (Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, S. saprophyticus).What is more, they prevent multiplication of herpes virus, flu and polio.
  • Oak bark is a powerful astringent treatment for throat and mouth infections, bleeding gums, and to cure acute diarrhea.
  • Oak bark is a styptic, one of the herbs used to slow bleeding in cuts and wounds.
  • Oak bark can also be used internally, especially for ailments with the digestive system. It is recommended in the case of gastritis and bowel diarrhea. The ingredients contained in the bark of the oak normalize the functioning of the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • The infusion made from Oak bark is recommended for oily hair care and in case of hair loss and dandruff
Preparation and dosage:
  • decoction for oral mucosa: pour 1 glass of cold water over 2 flat tablespoons (about 5g) of Oak bark, bring it to boil and cook covered for about 5 minutes, leave aside for around 15 minutes and strain. Such prepared decoction can be used for rinsing oral cavity and throat a couple of times a day. Not recommended for children.
  • decoction for external use: pour 1 liter of cold water over 2 flat tablespoons (about 5g) of Oak bark, bring it to boil, cook covered for about 5 minutes, leave aside for 15 minutes and strain. Such prepared decoction can be used for washing your skin and preparing compresses a couple of times a day, it can be also used for washing vulva and anus, bathing wounds and small skin pimples. It is also suitable for sitz baths in case of hemorrhoids. Not recommended for children.
  • decoction for drinking: Pour 1 glass of water over 1 teaspoon of Oak bark. Heat it for 10 minutes, leave covered for 10 minutes and strain. Drink in small sips when suffering from diarrhoea and food poisoning.
