Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) Whole Seeds

Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) Whole Seeds Herbal Tea

Milk Thistle seeds have strong liver function supporting properties. The seeds of the plant contain an isomeric mixture of flavonolignans collectively known as silymarin. Milk thistle seeds contain approximately 4–6 % silymarin.

Silymarin is used as a hepatoprotective agent to remedy toxic liver damage and it is also beneficial for chronic inflammatory liver diseases.
The hepatoprotective activity of silymarin is based on antioxidant properties, stimulating liver cells regeneration and cell membrane stabilization to prevent hepatotoxic agents from entering hepatocytes.

Flavonolignans possess a wide range of biological benefits including anti-inflammatory, hyperprolactinemic properties.
Milk thistle also increases the glutathione level in organisms (up to around 50%). It plays an important role in the detoxification as well as in the regeneration process of damaged liver cells.

Glutathione is a strong antioxidant, even stronger than vitamins E and C.
It protects the liver cells against damage caused by free radicals.
Milk thistle seeds are a good source of flavonolignans, silymarin and antioxidants.
Milk thistle seeds can be beneficial for liver, gallbladder and kidneys.
